Citi Creates Opportunities for Minority and Women-Owned Businesses
In 2018, Citi Foundation selected Newark to participate in the City Accelerator program in support of the growth of minority-owned businesses and the jobs they create. Through this initiative, Newark will implement unique programs to drive local procurement to ensure that established businesses and larger developers partner with smaller minority and women-owned contractors.
JPMorgan’s New Skills for Youth Summer Youth Employment Program is a $17 million, five-year commitment to U.S. cities working to increase the number of teens with access to quality summer work experiences that put them on a path to greater economic mobility. As part of the program, in 2017, JPMorgan provided a $50,000 grant to the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation.
Goldman Sachs’ Commitment to Newark’s Revitalization
Driving progress in underserved communities is central to the mission of the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group. The team recognized the opportunity for positive impact in Newark and became committed to its revitalization. Since 2010, Goldman Sachs has worked together with public and private parties, committing over $500 million across 15 projects spanning education, job creation and housing opportunities, transforming Newark communities and creating substantial change.
Goldman Sachs Finances Solar Energy Systems in New Jersey
In 2018, Goldman Sachs’ Alternative Energy Investing Group used an innovative financing structure to fund solar energy systems in New Jersey. The financing structure facilitated the deployment of 75 MW of distributed solar and distributed solar plus battery systems. These systems provide solar power to commercial, municipal, and small-scale front-of-the-meter projects with rural electric cooperatives.
Morgan Stanley Capital Creates Industry-Leading Patient Care
In August 2017, Morgan Stanley helped New Jersey’s Inspira Medical Center raise $265 million to expand and offer top services to patients. These funds helped finance a new hospital, expand emergency room care, and provided advanced technology in radiation oncology. This investment was critical in the creation of jobs and in improving hospital care in the state.
