Wells Fargo’s Philanthropic Contributions in Asheville
Wells Fargo donated more than $35.8 million to local nonprofits, schools and community organizations in 2018 in North Carolina. In one example, Wells Fargo collaborated with Mountain Housing Opportunities to provide homebuyer education, down payment assistance and other affordable housing solutions to communities in low- and moderate-income areas in Asheville.
Bank of America Helps Provide Equal Access to Housing in Charlotte
Through a $70 million investment partnership, Bank of America is helping to provide equal access to housing in Charlotte for low- to moderate-income families for affordable housing. This project includes $50 million in below-market loans, $11 million invested in the Housing Opportunity Investment Fund, $2.5 million in economic mobility programs, and a donation of $7.25 million of land in Uptown Charlotte. Bank of America’s investment partnership marks the largest private-sector commitment to affordable housing in Charlotte’s history.
Citi Drives Sustainable Growth for Lower-Income Charlotte Residents
As part of its City Accelerator program, Citi Foundation provided Charlotte with a grant to drive sustainable growth while increasing opportunity for lower-income residents. The funds helped the city of Charlotte refine its approach to procurement spending, allowing it to pursue strategies to increase the diversity of municipal vendors and contractors and direct more money to local, minority-owned businesses.
Bank of America Supports North Carolina Nonprofits
Bank of America has provided $56 million in grants and matching gifts in North Carolina through the Bank of America Charitable Foundation since 2014. The money supports local nonprofits addressing economic mobility and community needs. Further, employees have volunteered 1.1 million hours as part of the company’s annual goal of 2 million volunteer hours across the company.
Goldman Sachs supports small businesses in North Carolina to grow their companies and hire employees. Goldman provides financial support to the Carolina Small Business Development Fund through the bank’s 10,000 Small Business program. The program empowers entrepreneurs by providing greater access to education, capital, and business support services.

In 2019, the Wells Fargo Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant to Veterans Helping Veterans Heal in Winston-Salem for supportive services such as job skills training and housing assistance for area veterans. The donation was part of the VeteranWINS® grant program, which has supported $1.2 million in donations to nonprofits across the country serving veteran housing needs.
